Liverpool have made much noise about being busy in this summer’s transfer window. The club received a huge boost on Saturday when one of their targets revealed he would like to emulate his idol Steven Gerrard.
There have been rumors since January that Liverpool would like to add Arsenal’s Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain. Those rumors got a lot louder on Saturday in the aftermath of the Gunner’s FA Cup victory at Wembley Stadium. In the post-match interviews Oxlade-Chamberlain was receiving questions from the BT Sport crew, including Steven Gerrard.
They discuss his current position as a wing-back in Arsenal’s new 3-5-2 formation. He goes on to state how he enjoys getting more minutes in the system and attacking from deep.
Then without prompting he reveals how he wants to play in central midfield and that he has always “wanted to be Steven Gerrard”.
This will be a big plus for Liverpool as they have yet to secure any transfer targets as heading into June. Man City have been very active already securing Monaco’s Bernardo Silva and Benfica’s Ederson. This is positive news for Liverpool who are eager to bolster their side ahead of next season’s Champions League.
It has been somewhat of a break out season for Arsenal’s Oxlade-Chamberlain. He has overcome some of his injury problems and this season made more appearances (45) and scored more goals (6) than any season before. In a year of underwhelming performances at the Emirates, the Englishman has been immune to most of that criticism.
