San Clemente debuts free summer trolleys – Orange County Register
If San Clemente’s new bright-red trolleys can get Brett “Mr. San Clemente” Lopez to ride an open-air bus occasionally instead of walk the sidewalks of downtown San Clemente as he is known to do, you have to figure the free shuttle buses will catch on with a lot of people around town.
Lopez, nicknamed Mr. San Clemente because he is such a frequent fixture walking the sidewalks with his trademark ball of frizzy hair, was a passenger on the first trolley to depart the San Clemente Pier on opening day.
“Oh yes, I love it!” he said as he stepped off at North Beach. “I’m going to bring my friends down here. They’re going to want to hop on the trolley and go check out the mall a lot more, and definitely go down to the pier a lot more.”
And don’t worry, San Clemente. Lopez, who lives near Stop 5, won’t be invisible during those times when he ditches the sidewalk for the trolley. “Oh, they’ll see me waving, still!” he said.
