Available for free, it is actually designed to create dynamic and interactive web pages. Now, its focus has shifted towards server based scripting and it has become more like Microsoft ASP.Net, mod PERL and Sun microsystems’ JavaServer pages. It also provides the building structure and design development for RADs (that is rapid application development).

The LAMP architecture which is very popular in the web development arena, the p in this four lettered word signifies PHP. MediaWiki , WordPress, Joomla , Drupal , Moodle , Silver Stripe , fez publish , etc are the web CMS (web content management system) which are written in PHP.
